University of Maryland Eastern Shore Extension offers workshop on growing and processing elderberries.
Learn all about growing and processing elderberries at a workshop Feb. 28 — hosted by University of Maryland Eastern Shore Extension herb specialist Henriette den Ouden.
The Elderberry Growing Workshop will be held from 9 a.m.-noon at the UMES Research, Extension and Teaching Farm on Stewart Neck Road in Princess Anne.
The goal is to give you information to decide if you want to grow these berries commercially or as a backyard grower.
We will make cuttings for you to take home, and you will learn how to grow them into healthy plants.
Den Ouden will discuss different elderberry cultivars, diseases and other threats, and share how to harvest them and prepare flowers or berries for sale. The workshop will also explore the economics of growing and selling.
The cost per participant is $10 and pre-registration is required as class size is limited to 15 participants.
